Shortbread cookies, I think. It's been awhile but they had these drops of jam right in the middle of them.

At least make sure I don't burn anything down, I wouldn't want you out of a job. [ She chuckles. ]

Lucky is my middle name.

[ She wishes because she, in truth, has too many names. ]

I wish but they lock the main gates up at night. I'd try and climb the walls but I'm sure someone would just shoot me.

[She lets out a huff of breath that's almost a laugh.]

Sweets might not be the cause to die over, no. Though it'd make a good song round the tavern probably.

[ Okay, she has to chuckle. ] Not the greatest legacy.

People have had their name bestowed on sillier things. My grandmother would be proud.

Hmm... not really, she was always too serious even for something like sweets. She'd have them with tea sometimes but it was my grandfather that had the big sweet tooth of the two.

[It takes a little while for her to respond. She's not really sure what to say to that or if she should ask more or what?? Talking to people is so weird and baffling.]

You were close with them?

[ichaer]

[ Isn't that the truth of the matter and talking about family? Even weirder. ]

My grandmother was a really serious woman. I can probably count on one hand the number times I ever saw her smile but my grandfather was the exact opposite. I guess we were as close as family could be.

[Avery gives a little hum to acknowledge that she heard her, but hesitates again on what she's supposed to say. Does she... Does she share something in return?]

I never knew mine. Grandparents, I mean.

It was just me and mum.

It was just the three of us for as long as I could remember.

[ Them and the servants but she barely remembers them either. Just the inside of her bedroom and forever being lost in winding halls. ]

Do you keep in touch with your mom?

We write... sometimes. I'm not very good at it.

I was never good at writing letters either. She always said I rattled on too much about anything or everything whenever I did when I was younger.

[ Hmm. ] I'm planning on going back there... to Ferelden and to Denerim. I always wondered where they were buried.

["Hmm" indeed.]

When were you there last?

It's probably been around... eight years or so since I was in Ferelden. Eleven years since I saw Denerim, give or take some time.

[Parents who died in Denerim about 11 years ago? Now let's do some math and see if we can't figure out this myster--Who am I kidding? It's totally obvious.]

Oh. Right.

[Okay, but what would a normal person do with this information? Talk about it?? ...nah, let's not.]

My mum's still there, in Denerim, if you're looking for a meal or something when you go. [A scoff.] She'd probably offer you my old bed for a while if you need it.

[ Nothing like a Blight to ruin everything. ]

I might have to check in on that because I don't think I've slept in a bed in actual years. It doesn't beat getting away from all this insane bullshit for a little bit either.

No kidding. And I'm not even one of you mad lot who go running straight toward the bullshit whenever it shows up.

Running straight toward the bullshit is like a Warden code of honor.

I'll still take fighting demons in fields over hunting darkspawn in the Deep Roads. I can't stand the Deep Roads.

Twice. I manage it must have been amazing to see at one point but all I've can remember is the darkspawn.
